The main attraction is the Fagaras Fortress which dominates all the buildings in the city, being situated in the town centre. It is surrounded by a lake, the only fortress of its kind in Romania and it’s still retained completely. The fortress was the residence of Michael the Brave, of his wife Mrs Stanca and after that the residence of Principles Gabriel Bethlen of Transylvania and George Rakoczi. In the middle of the 20th century, the fortress was used as a jail. -
